Try it (tested under VB4 - 16 bit) to play AVI and MID (or wave)

create a module1.bas with (each "Declare" uses just one line):
--------------------------------------------
Declare Function mciExecute Lib "MMSystem" (ByVal CommandString As
String) As Integer
Declare Function mciSendString Lib "MMSystem" (ByVal lpstrCommand As
String,  ByVal lpstrReturnString As String, ByVal wReturnLength As
Integer, ByVal hCallback As Integer) As Long
--------------------------------------------
put this in the "form load":
--------------------------------------------
Private Sub Form_Load()
       'play midi using mciExecute --------------------------------
            filemid$ = "c:\mymid\victor1.mid"
            x% = mciExecute("Play " & filemid$)
'open/play/close AVI device using mciSendString ------
            fileavi$ = "c:\myavi\victor1.avi"
            x% = mciSendString("Open " & fileavi$ & " alias VidClip", ByVal
ReturnString, Len(ReturnString) - 1, 0)
            x% = mciSendString("Play VidClip wait", ByVal ReturnString,
Len(ReturnString) - 1, 0)
            x% = mciSendString("Close VidClip", ByVal ReturnString,
Len(ReturnString) - 1, 0)
            End
End Sub
