 good visual basic book

I am developing a database using Visual Basic 4. I have never done
any programming in any visual language. I would appreciate if some
kind/knowledgeable soul can refer me some book to start developing
a database.

Thanks,

Gautam Aggarwal

I guess what you're trying to do is develop an interface to a database
using VB and the database is being developed by some DBMS. If that is
the case you can use the online help in VB to develop the interface. The
online help is more than sufficient for simple applications.

gautam,
I have been doing what you are about to do for about 7 weeks now, and I
respectfully disagree that the online help will be sufficient, given your
amount of experience. While I don't have a lot of experience with visual
languages(object-oriented), I have had classes in VB and VC++ and did not
find online help to be enough except for the most simple application.  I
would suggest "Using Visual Basic 4" Special Edition by Que if you plan to
write even one SQL Query, and are unfamilar w/ the SQL syntax.  If you do
not plan to use SQL(you probably will anyway) try Peter Norton's Guide to
VB 4.

Please keep in mind that this is only MY opinion.

Good Luck,

Ron

If you are developing only a database, maybe the best choice is Access 7.0,
because you can develop forms and reports without writing ANY line of code.
However, if you intend to distribute your database as an application and
don't know to program in VB, I would recommend the following book:

Visual Basic in 21 days
Gurewich & Gurewich
Sams Publishing

It's a good way to enter in VB programming.
