 converting database

Hi I have just converted a access 2 database to a access 2000 database all
went well but when I added a new record to the database the autonumber
fields had changed.. The last autonumber was 13060 and after the conversion
it went to 2781507. All number after this still increment by one but there
is a massive gap.
Any body got any idea's any help much appreciated

Just delete the field in access and add it again as autonumber, then it will
be reset back to the total number of records in the table.

Delete the most recent records which are out of sequence.  Then compact the
database which contains the table in question.  New records entered now should
receive the next autonumber.
