 VB4 16 & 32 bit compatability

Hi,

I am currently using VB 4 (16 bit) for compatibility with 16 bit
Windows apps, but I have been asked to write an application to operate
on an Access 7 database.  This (I understand) means I must write it
using VB4 (32 bit).

Can anyone tell me whether I can install the 32 bit version of VB4 on
my PC and write programs that are compatible with Access 7, as well as
retaining the ability to still use VB4 (16 bit) to write programs that
use the old (Access 2) database engine?

What are the ssues here?  What are the pitfalls?  If anyone has done
this sort of thing I would love to hear from you.

 VB4 16 & 32 bit compatability

It's easy, and almost flawless. You can even install them in the same directory.

The only issue that I know of is to be sure that VB4-16 setup wizard uses the
OLE2 files from its own sys16 directory. That is mainly a problem if you are
using something like InstallShield.

 VB4 16 & 32 bit compatability

Hi Graham -- I hope we'e talking about w95.
I had the inverse problem, needed to write some 16b apps while most were
32b. So I reinstalled Aks 2 and for awhile everything worked fine.  Just
had to set the file association in explorer as Aks2 had gained control on
mdb's.
Now I've installed Office 97 and it simply _erased_ all previous versions
of Aks it found, but for the zipped backups -- which anyway work no more.
As I can see, Aks 8 converts also 7 format. vb4-32 can still read its
mdb's, but if you've to handle them you'll need Aks8.
