Oracle Objects and the Oracle Data Control

I had a weird on happen over the weekend.  I'm using Oracle Objects
(which came with Oracle8 Enterprise) and have been quite pleased with it
thus far.  I used the Oracle Data Control for the first time this weekend
and lets just say it was a serious PAIN.  For whatever reason, the DC would
refresh itself and then immediatly close the connection to the server.  The
very second I tried to move to the next record VB would throw a major fit
and exit to the OS (NT Workstation 4, SP 3).  The DC was being used in
conjunction with Sheridan Datawidgets (their dbgrid) in bound mode.  [Turns
out that I wouldn't have been able to use the DC with the Grid anyway --
when doing multi table joins with the DC the result set isn't updatable.]
I eventually gave up on the bound mode and just filled the grid
manually.  More work than I needed to do.  has anyone else had this problem?
If so, what's the fix?
