Crystal Reports "Unable to open database"

I use VB5 and Access 97.
How can I make Crystal Reports (4.6) open a JET 3.5 database (32 bit)
which doesn't belong to SYSTEM.MDW. The db itself is NOT password
protected but expects predefined users (from this special .mdw
workgroup) with username and password.
I don't use ODBC server at all.
In CRW documentation, it seems that only ODBC access is described
(Username and Connect with DSN,UID, PWD on so on.....)

Thank's for your help
Eric
