Using remote MySQL server with PHP via HTTP

Which is the best way to get data from HTTP-server? The main goal is to
use remotely located MySQL-database, which can be accessed with PHP
scripts (which can take parameters via GET method).

The httpSocket 2.0 for REALBasic seems much slower when loading a PHP
file when compared to loading a simple HTML file from the same server.
Both pages load in same time into web browser. So where's the problem
and is there any better solution?
