I don't know what the interest is, but I do have a text-based GUI I
have started to convert from REALLY OLD code in MS Basic.
As of today, after just a few hours, I have pull-down menus with
keyboard and mouse support. I realize most people want a Windows GUI,
but my client on this project is running an IBM 3270 emulator, so the
employees are comfortable text.
As an aside: I just modified a JavaScript for multi-level pull-down
menus, which I use on a web site. If anyone can suggest a clean way to
implement multi-level menus in PB/CC, I'd be interested.
My goal is a complete text GUI within the month. Using it as a shell,
I'll convert old programs as I need them. I opted to create a shell
instead of include files.
Among my sins: a few global variables, such as screen/menu colors,
because I hate passing a dozen variables to each function.
If anyone is interested in the idea, I think a skeleton we can share
as developers would be useful. Yes, it's text-based, but it still has
uses. I'm not a great BASIC coder; if I can convert 15-year-old code
in a few hours, the cleanup and enhancement should be a breeze for
people here.
So... if anyone wants to work on this or use the code as a starting
point, let me know.
