I  just  purchased  the  book  Q  BASIC, and  about  to  begin  learning
programing.
The  book  says  that  windows  comes  with  the  Qbasic  program  editor
in  it  and  that  it  should  be  in  file  manager  in  C:/DOS  .
What  ever  I  tried  I  just  can't  find  that  file  in  C:  ,the
closest  thing  to  it  is
C:/CPQDOS  and  the  CPQ  probably  stands  for  COMPAQ (my  comp.  model).
on  any  case  Qbasic  is  not  there , to  my  frustration.
I'm  running  win  95  ,and  the  book  says  that  Qbasic  comes  with
all  version  of
windows   from  ms- dos  5.0  and  up  (I  got  dos  7.1)but  the
QBASIC.EXE  FILE
is  not  on  my system.
What  do  you  think.
Can  you  recommend  me  a  good  Qbasic  editor , complaier  from  the
net(preferably  a  freeware)or  is  there  something  else  I  should  do.
Your  help  is  much  appreciated.

Thanks  a lot  Avi

First, use less spaces when you talk. Second, QBasic is on your Win95 CD.
It's in the /oldmsdos directory or something like that. Third, you can
download FirstBasic which is a shareware (compiler or interpreter?) from
http://www.powerbasic.com/

Do you have the CD version of Win95? If so, it should be on there. If
you have the disk version, you may still have it on you're hard drive.
Use FIND or some other disk searching utility ( I like SFIND v1.01) to
find QBASIC.EXE

If this doesn't work, I have heard that Microsoft has it in a Dos
Utility package (which was left out of W95??) availible for download
on their site; the name of the file escapes me right now, though.

BTW: Anybody have a copy of QB4.5 for sale? Please email

The book was probably made before Win95 came out.  QBasic is not included with
the floppy version of Windows 95.  You can download it, though, from:
        http://www.microsoft.com/windows/download/olddos.exe
It contains QBasic and all the other DOS programs that were left out of the
floppy version of Windows 95.

Hope this helps.

(a pretty good one too!)

Look for QBasic.exe on the CD Rom in the Olddos directory or dowload it
from Microsoft's web site under Olddos (i think)
