Hey, stay cool folks, remember Kenneth is young and just starting out with the
whole internet/programming buisness. He is unaware, like many people starting,
of proper netiquette and the time delays in getting replys from around the
world. He was also, until very recently, unaware of how to transfer mail
messages from Eudora into a QBASIC readable file, and had to type all the
examples out by hand.
I think he, and other people new to this whole buisness, would benefit from a
gentle reminder of good netiquette and some pointers to the various FAQ's
(rather than a "just read the FAQ reply"). Seasoned users forget just how
confusing the whole internet business is, and many things we take for granted
are just not obvious (like the very existence of FAQ's and netiquette, let
alone how to find them. How many here KNOW where the usenet FAQ's are
archived?). We also tend to forget how clueless WE were when starting out.
I know we get a lot of rubbish posted here by clueless dweeb's, but
reasonably polite requests from obvious new users should not be jumped on. We
do, after all, want to encourage enthusiastic BASIC users of all levels of
ability.
Cheers! Ian
(who has spent many hours trying to convince new computer users that it's a
REALLY good idea to leave caps lock OFF :-( (or even to FIND caps lock))
PS. If you are reading this Kenneth. Using all uppercase writing is considered
to be the email/net equivalent of shouting, and is considered bad manners.
There are a number of guidelines for posting to newsgroups. These are usually
posted to the newsgroup usenet.newusers at regular intervals. FAQ's are
Frequently Asked Questions, lists of which are regularly posted, and can also
be found in FTP archives (to which I have misplaced the address). The BASIC FAQ
is obtainable by email by posting to
