CA Realizer, basic for OS/2 ?

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if there is a good basic compiler for OS/2?
I have been told that CA-Realizer is a OS/2 basic alike but I see
it marketed as "CA-Realizer for Win". Is the OS/2 part dead-end?

Has anyone information about powerbasic that it will bring out
an OS/2 version?

CA Realizer, basic for OS/2 ?
TrueBASIC should have their version ready this summer.  It runs on lots
of other platforms and the code is directly portable with little fuss at
all.

Ca-Realizer can be used to create apps in both OS/2 and Windows. It comes
with both. It is superset of basic. It comes with a forms developer and a
report engine CA-Ret. It gives you the ability to add arrays within record
structures. You can also do animation. Nice features.

version 2 contains both the os2 and the win compilers- it is not dead.
fixes to both compilers are available at CA's ftp site.

the current problem, in our view, with realizer is that it will
not do threads but
this may change if a new version aimed at win 95 appears after win's
release. it is a major deficiency in the os2 section of the product.

it would also be nice if it produced true standalone exe's -the
runtime size is ridiculous(800k), and the speed could be better.

however, for the price, it's not bad at all, and has lots of
interesting features.ca COULD make it a powerhouse compiler if they
wanted to- and hopefully they will.

Can you also answer the following questions:

1/ Can it produce stand-alone exectuables?
2/ Can it produce non-PM applications?
3/ Can it produce DOS (non-WIN) applications?
4/ Have heard about a CA-R version 3. Is that the current release?
5/ Do you have porting experience (from PDS710 or PowerBasic 3.x)?

Much questions, I know, but it seems to be not a popular product...

Kim

It's not a current release, but you can probably get on their
        beta testers list.

: 5/ Do you have porting experience (from PDS710 or PowerBasic 3.x)?
Yes, you can port fairly easy to Realizer, but don't try to port from
        Realizer.
