 dBASE IV Files <> BSIC

CAn anyone point me in the right direction for information on
reading/writing DBF files in a BASIC application?  I need to know how to
establish the data type of the DBF file structure.  dBase IV

You may want to try BRIDGIT 3.0.  This is a Quick library that plugs
into Visual Basic for DOS and provides both dBase and Clipper
capability.  This program works but I find that it takes a lot of
memory in its operation.  Bridgit 3.o is offered by Unelko Corp. in
Scottsdale, Arizona (602) 991-7272.  There are others but this is the one
I have used.

Or you may care to download Ethan Winers excellent book
"PC Magazine Basic Techniques and Utilities",  (at x2ftp.oulu.fi
in the /pub/books/msdos/docs directory  as winer.zip 650 Kb) which contains,
in addition to many other goodies, a whole chapter and some example code for
reading and writing dBASE files. I think the examples are for dBASE III, but
the principle should apply to the other dBASE formats, there is also a listing
of file formats somewhere out there (I have lost my reference to it, but it
was posted here not so long ago). Best of all, its free!

Cheers! Ian
