 | How do I make awk to match a variable instead of regular expression?
 | for egzample
 | > awk '/a1/' a1=name filename
 | I want awk to match "name" and all I get are lines matching "a1"  [ ... ]

nawk '$0 ~ a1' a1=name filename         # nawk only!  does not with with oawk

( the <alt.lang.awk> newsgroup has been superceded by <comp.lang.awk> )
