 problem with stderr

Hi
    Could someone tell me if this should output "err" to stderr ?

Quote:
> type test.awk

BEGIN { }
{
        print "err" > "/dev/stderr";

Quote:
}

given an input file with one word

type foo
oneword

gawk -f test.awk foo

unfortunately I'm using XP and a win32 port of gawk 3.0.3

Thanks
Rob
