 format table - files.zip (0/1)

Hi ,

I didn't find a German Newsgroup, so I must try to ask my question in
english.

Can anybody format this file (file1.asc) with awk or with shell, so
that it looks like the file file2.asc ?

I would like to have all values left concised.

Can anybody help me ?

It is really hard to see what you want.  Your two files are only
different in the spacing between columns, and that spacing (in
file2.asc, your "output") is not consistent, so I have no way to deduce
the exact transform function you have in mind.  You also changed the
header lines a little -- presumably that wasn't the important part?
You're going to have to be more specific and give better examples of
your output file.

Also, when providing examples of your input and output files, don't
send them as zipped/uuencoded.  Also don't use a separate post.
Instead, since these are text files, you should have just posted a few
lines from each one, without encoding them in any way, and in the same
post as your question.

The specification is not very precise, but
$ awk '{printf "%-3s    %-8s    %-8s    %-8s    %-16s ",$1,$2,$3,$4,$5;for(i=6;i<=NF;++i)printf "%s ",$i;printf "\n"}' file1.asc > file2.asc
seems to be moving in the right direction.
