Precautions reqd for System-Volume Backup
Depends which system datasets.
Most "system" datasets are not updated during normal system operation,
so they can be backed up and restores cleanly. But any datasret, system
or not, which is being updated during the backup is going to be suspect,
depending on the type of dataset and the nature of the update. things
like page and spool datasets may not be restored correctly, but they
will probably not cause the system to fail, just get recoverable errors.
But the best technique is to backup system volumes on a quiet system,
nothing else going on besides the backup.
