(Ken Getz): Copyright para, Re: GetOpenFileName

Hi Ken,

We (FAQ Team members) have been discussing about including some more text on
our FAQ sites regarding the GetOpenFileName code from Access 95 How To
before we put it back "online".

We've (sort of) reached a consensus of adding the following paragraph before
the code.  Could you please let us know if this is
satisfactory/unapplicable/ or needs to be changed??
-----
This code is copyrighted to Ken Getz . It is not to be altered or
distributed without prior permission of the owner. It may be used within
your own application, provided the copyright notice is left untouched.
-----

Thanks for your time

I think ANYONE's code should include such a message. HOwever, here's a
slight alteration:

I like that better.  And I suggest you add such a note to anyone's code
that's posted publicly. -- ken

Most excellent.  Will do as you say.  The next update to my site would
include this wilth all modules.

Thank you kindly.

Hi Ken -

I'm not surprised to see your revision. I wonder if you really want to
hear from everyone who tweaks your code <g>.

I was thinking that maybe the FAQ authors should include a reference to
the book the code was originally published in (if applicable). Aside from
the possible benefit to the authors of selling a few more copies, it's
really a service to the FAQ users to turn them on to the available
references for Access development. "It's for their own good". Someone new
to Access won't know who Ken Getz or Paul Litwin are, or that they have
written tomes on the subject. I'd vote for pointing them (or me) to the
source. On the other hand, maybe this is best handled by a reference to
the source in the FAQ itself, not as a header in the code.

Hi Michael,

I had not removed the "Courtesy of" and "From Access 95 How To" when I had
posted the code earlier.  However, thanks for your post since it triggered a
thought that I should really have a link to the book itself at Amazon, also
maybe a new "Recommended Reading/Reference" section.

Thanks

Welcome back Dev

That's the trouble with breaks. Your brain goes into neutral and you start
having ideas :-)

Hope you had a good weekend
