 Doc Variables in Master Document

Hi there,
I have a template project created in Word 97.  This template is used to
create sections of training manuals.  Usually, the user puts several
documents together in a master document.  Here's my problem.  I use lots of
document variables throughout the template.  I also have several bookmarks.
The document variables are used whenever the information needs to be
displayed in header or footer space.  The bookmarks were causing lots of
problems and I found a documented problem/suggestion about using document
variables instead.  Anyway, when inserting subdocuments into a master, Word
notices the same bookmark name being used and asks if you want to update.
However, it does not ask anything about duplicate document variables and
instead just changes the value to that of the master document.  For
instance, a document variable called DocTitle in each subdocument takes on
the value of DocTitle in the master document.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in
advance.

 Doc Variables in Master Document
Hi BJP

I think it unlikely that anybody here has experimented with Master Documents
in the way you are describing. The reason is that the feature is seriously
bugged, in such a way that document corruption is frequent and sometimes
completely irrecoverable.

Therefore, the only advise that I have ever heard here about Master
Documents is "Don't use them!"
