Word automation needs admin

 Word automation needs admin

hello all,

I tried automating the word application at server side
which will run to merge with some datas supplied to it by
running a macro in it. This automation works fine with
making the domain user as admin.

As per microsoft's recommendation to not to use ofice
automation at server-side. I tried to make the word
application to run under MTS/COM+ with admin account as
out-of process. Also configured the Word DCOM to run by
launching user.

I made the work around suggested at
http://www.*-*-*.com/ ;EN-
US;257757
http://www.*-*-*.com/ ;EN-
US;288368

My question is why there is need for admin privileges for
the user only in case of launching permission? As we know
it works fine if we make it intractive and try to open the
word application. What exact differences it makes with
intractive and non-intractive users? If we have to
configure it to use launching user, is there any temporary
entries made in to the %windows%/system.. directories
which is not so incase of interactive user?

any thoughts ...

Since this is not a supported scenario, I guess no-one has spent the time to
investigate why you need to be an Administrator. You could just try running
as a normal user or Power user and see that happens...
