Word 2000 addin runs but is sometimes silently disabled in Word XP

Hi,

We are having a serious problem we can't get a grip on. We have a Word addin
that was originally developed for Word 2000. It is a COM addin developed
using Visual Basic 6.0. This addin has worked without problems under several
Word 2000 installations. Recently, we started installing Word XP on the new
system we currently ship. Of course, we tested our addin under Word XP, and
it seemed to work without problem. Then, we received several problem reports
from our customers, stating that their addin didn't work correctly under
their Word XP installation. We looked very closely at a Word XP installation
with this problem, and we couldn't find what was causing the problem: the
COM object was correctly registered, the registry was OK, Word setting were
OK, everything was OK, except the addin didn't run ! Then we finally found
the problem in the registry: apparently, the addin had been silently
disabled. We found the following key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Resiliency\DisabledIt
ems]

under this key, there was a value:
"13BBFDA"=hex:01,00,00,00,62,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,63,00,3a,00,5c,00,70,00,72
,\

00,6f,00,67,00,72,00,61,00,6d,00,20,00,66,00,69,00,6c,00,65,00,73,00,5c,00,\

62,00,72,00,61,00,69,00,6e,00,6c,00,61,00,62,00,20,00,33,00,2e,00,33,00,30,\

00,2d,00,30,00,2e,00,30,00,30,00,5c,00,62,00,6c,00,77,00,6f,00,72,00,64,00,\
  32,00,6b,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00

When we deleted the complete key, the problem was solved !!

CONCLUSION: Word 10 disable our addin for an unknown reason.

Does anybody know how an addin could get disabled like this ? I can't find
any information related to this problem.

Best Regards,

Philippe Minsart

Word 2000 addin runs but is sometimes silently disabled in Word XP
Hi,

I had the same problem except that my COM addin was developed with C# for
Word 2k. I was experimenting with Word Macros security settings in Word XP
(setting it to High/Medium, checking/unchecking 'Trust all installed
add-ins..', enabling/disabling my add-in on Word start-up) and after that
add-in was not going to load at all (it still worked with Word 2k, but not
with Word XP). So the reason might be related with security settings (I
don't know if it's right in your case).

And thanks for your post, actually deleting the key does solve the problem
:)

Regards,

Linas

I've encountered the same problem. I don't know why either, but I had moved
the VS project to a network folder. When opening the project from the
network, I received a warning "Projektordner nicht sicher" which is more or
less "Project folder not secure".  There is a help entry at
ms-help://MS.VSCC/MS.MSDNVS.1031/vsintro7/html/vxurfProjectFolderNotSecureDi
alogBox.htm
Neither debugging nor running the addin worked.
I then removed the registry entry described by others and moved the project
to the local folder again. Running and debugging both work again.

The same for me, thank you.

Thanks for the information.  That was exactly the problem that I was having
while developing a C# add-in.
