E-mail security in Outlook 2000/XP blocks normal application development

Hi Siebe,

My name is Ken. Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups.

As you are aware, the implementation of the Outlook Security Update was in
response to malicious e-mail messages that were affecting Microsoft Outlook
users.

While the security updates can be somewhat of an inconvenience to the end
user and the developer who is implementing e-mail capabilities within an
application, the purpose of the update was provide additional levels of
protection against these malicious e-mail messages.

To address the questions outlined in your message.

1.  Is there a way to denote that a specific application is "trusted" and
thereby bypass the security settings of Microsoft Outlook?

There is not a method of setting up or specifying a "trusted" program.  Any
program that is attempting to send e-mail either through Microsoft Outlook,
CDO, or through Simple MAPI will cause a warning message to be displayed to
the end user.  The user must then select whether or not to allow the
message to be sent.

2.  Is there a solution to the issue that you are encountering where you
need to send 150 e-mail messages and do not want the user to have to agree
to send all 150 e-mail messages?

Depending upon exactly how the e-mail messages are being sent or need to be
sent, you may be able to build a string of e-mail addresses and then pass
this string into the TO argument of the code that is sending the e-mail.
This may allow you to significantly reduce the number of individual e-mail
messages that are sent and thereby reduce the number of confirmations
required by the end user.

I have included links to a couple of articles below that further address
the Outlook E-mail Security update.
