Opening a Mail merged Document from word

I am printing off a Report from Excel.   The report is made up of 5
Word documents and approximately 50 Excel Charts.  The last word
document is a mail merge and the source data is from a seperate Excel
spreadsheet.   When it is opened The system hangs up for at least a
minute before a dialog comes up saying personal.xls is already open and
it gives me the buttons "read only", "contine", "notify later" is it
possible to write some code that makes the source data read only
automatically, so that the dialog box doesn't come up.

Thank you in advance for your help

Jeremy
