Vertical Line on Gantt Chart at specific dates

I would like to create several vertical lines in the Gantt Chart view so
that I can visually see certain milestone dates. I know I could set a
progress line but those are not a perfect vertical line because they trace
back to the current progress of each task and zig zag all over the place. I
am looking to do something just like the "current date" gridline (right
click on the Gantt Chart, select "gridlines", and then select "current
date") for the Gantt Chart but being able to assign several dates to draw
vertical lines for. Does anyone know how to do this in Project 2000 or by
using VBA in project 2000?

Thanks,

Vertical Line on Gantt Chart at specific dates
Hi John,

The best I can offer is to use the Drawing Toolbar.  Select a line, draw it
vertically and then format it (double-click the line) to tie it to a date.
You can get a more accurate placement if you zoom in as far as possible.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:-)

Vertical Line on Gantt Chart at specific dates
OK, I will try that. Is there a way to draw a line using VBA? It would be
nice if I could create a VBA program that would cycle through all my
milestones and then draw a vertical line on the date for each milestone. Is
there a way to draw a line using VBA? Can I place it on the screen based on
a date?

Thank you for all your help!

Vertical Line on Gantt Chart at specific dates
After trying it out it is actually very easy to attach the line to a date.
Once you draw the line you can go into the "format" menu and then select
"drawing" then "properties". In the properties box you can select to tie the
line to a specific date. I looked to see if there was any VBA code that
would allow me to programmatically set the date but it appears that all I
can do is to create code that will open the dialog box but not set the
property via the VBA code .:-(
