Depends on what your needs are?

I guess you have already discovered the things that are available if you right-click on the Document Map?
Probably there isn't too much you can do with a macro that you can't already do from that context menu.

BTW, I don't use Document Map usually. I just noticed that the shortcuts to display only headings up to some heading level (Alt+Shift+1 for "Heading 1", ..., Alt+Shift+A for "all") from Outline View don't work for Document Map (don't know why they shouldn't; probably the programmers just overlooked that).

Outline view is more customizable than Document Map. Depending on what you had in mind, it might be easier to realize in Outline view.

You can easily create a new, second window for the document (Window > New window) and arrange both vertically (with a right-click on the Windows task bar).
That way you have most benefits of Document Map, plus all the customization and macro capabilities for Outlines.
Each change you make in one window automatically reflects in the other, too. But the location of the Selection isn't synchronized as it is with Document Map: The Selection in the right-hand window doesn't jump to the new location if you click someplace in the left window. Perhaps it would be possible to synchronize the windows with a macro (haven't tested it).

Please post back with the customizations you had in mind,

 Document Map View work around?

Thanks for the reply Klaus
The customisation I wanted toi do was to have two panes in
the window Word. The window on the top will contain the
original document while the window on the bottom will
contain the ASCII codes of each of the characetrs in the
document. And that it has to be dynamic , ie, any changes
in the document should be reflected on the ASCII pane, and
Vice Versa.
Can yu help me with this? And please let me know if it
will be OK if I get in touch with you through your email.

Thanks in Advance

 Document Map View work around?
Hi,

I was just going to pack in...
On first sight, what you propose doesn't sound like something that can be done without heavy-duty API programming, if at all.

The only case in which I did something like that was to display the control codes of binary files on screen. I used "Arial Unicode MS" which has graphic pictures for control codes (U+2400 to U+2424). But I didn't make it dynamic.

I'm curious: Why do you need to display the ASCII codes?

Perhaps somebody else has an idea.

BTW, I prefer the newsgroup if possible.

Greetings, Klaus

 Document Map View work around?
Hi Klaus
The ASCII codes arent as important, my main aim is to get
a pane at the bottom of all the word document I open. How
would you do that. I could do with the characters it self
and not the ASCII codes.Need some windows API programming?
And i needed to know one more thing, does the COM Addin
dll have compatibility issues when working with office 97?
I know that COM Addin started for Office 2000, but is it
totally incompatible with office 97? Is there a workaround
for this? I mean is there any way that I can Use the COM
Addin Dll both for Office 2000 as well as for 97..
Can u or anyone else reading teh post help me with this?
Regards
Raajah
