FindFirst, FindNext, Seek - naive(?) question

You may have followed my discussion about some stupid "You canceled the
previous operation" message.
I am now trying to recreate my database and all of a sudden have lots of
problems with
Seeks and FindFirst's etc.
For the former the syntax seems to have changed, the latter does not seem to
exist at all anymore
I did install all service releases etc. in order to avoid my initial
problem, but why could that be.
Is the new 'seek' more powerful or have I uninstalled something by accident?

I thought seek could only be used on TableType recordsets and FindFirst etc
on Dynaset type recos.
