Jet 3.51 vs Jet 4.0 vs MSDE

Jet 3.51 vs Jet 4.0 vs MSDE

I am working at a company who is having problems with Jet.  They are
trying to access an Access97 database with both Jet 4.0 and Jet 3.51.
(Yes, I know they shouldn't do that.....)  Most things seem to go fine,
but they seem to be running into a lot of database corruption issues.
I am trying to decide whether to upgrade their entire system to Jet 4,
but I can't find any articles describing the differences between 3.51
and 4.0.  Is there a 3.51/4.0 compatibility DLL to allow you to code
against 4.0 without changing the code?  Also, if I can convince them to
do an upgrade, should they just skip 4.0 and go to MSDE?

TIA

Jet 3.51 vs Jet 4.0 vs MSDE
The only problems with going the MSDE route is that:

1) It is difficult to install (not sure if this is a problem for you, since
it seems to be implied that all users are trying to access a single
database).  At the location that I worked at, we were trying to install a
separate copy on each PC we shipped our product to, which ended up being a
real nightmare.

2) MSDE and Jet use different dialects of SQL.  This may or may not be an
issue, depending on how much of your SQL code would have to be rewritten.
Corollary:  You cannot use any Jet specific functions with MSDE.

Jet 3.51 vs Jet 4.0 vs MSDE
In my office everyone is working with A97/SR2, but I use A2K and haven't had
any trouble at all.
I did have lots of trouble a few months ago with corrupted databases. The
problem was with the NICs; most of them relied on the RTL8029 chip and it
was fixed with a new driver we downloaded from the net.
Not that I'm an expert, but AFAIK, you cannot just upgrade to Jet 4.0, your
clients will have to move to A2K.
About Jet/MSDE .... what I've read is that MS is betting on MSDE (read: SQL)
