FIND feature for microsoft word 2000

I have Word 2000, and have trouble using the FIND feature.  When searching
entire directories/folders for documents containing a certain word or phrase
of text - (Tools menu, Find) I get the resulting list of documents with that
word or phrase OK (dialogue box Open), but when I open the first document to
review it, the list of 'found' documents disappears, and I'm left with only
the one document I'm looking at.  I  have to do the entire search again to
check for the next document.

Two questions: first, when using the FIND feature, is there a way to hold or
keep the resulting list of documents so that I can review the next document
from the search?  And second, can all of the documents located have the word
or phrase searched for be 'highlighted', like WordPerfect does???

Do the search in Windows Explorer which will hold the search window open and
open the document there.

two choices spring to mind.

1) Purchase and sleep with the Word VBA Developer's Handbook from
Sybex.

2) Utilise my commercial turoring services.
