Access hangs when opening VBA Code window

Access hangs when opening VBA Code window

I have a seroius problem that has occurred out of the blue! I am
unable to open the VBA Code window. OK - first question
what did you change... Nuffin - honest.. Not that I can remember
anyway... One day it was working - next day NBG.

I have uninstalled Office and reinstalled Office and reinstalled
Office Developer and still NBG.

Access opens fine. If I try to open the VBA window CPU usage
goes to 100 percent and Access won't respond and it just hangs....

I have tried with existing Dbs and with a new empty Db - same effect....

The only change to the system I have made recently is to
upgrade my graphics card from a Matrox 450 to a Matrox Parhelia.
However it has been working fine with this new card for a couple
of days... I am running dual monitors...

Windows XP, Office Developer Edition 2002....

Anyone any ideas?

Many thanks,
Roy

Roy,

A VBA code window from a module or form or both?  I guess
you're talking about all/any VBA code window?

I would guess that you have an invalid reference  or
activex control on a form?!?

There are some options in the Tools | Options | Module
that I honestly don't think will change anything but I'm
not sure.

Not much help, huh?

David

David,
Many thanks for your response...

Yes - any route into VBA causes a hang...

It's not an invalid ref.... I can open a new Blank db and try to create a new
module. This will cause it to hang....

Tools|Options|Module ? In the Access window if I go to Tools|Options I don't
have a module tab? Is this telling me something?

I have gleaned nothing from the Event logs other than it is the MSACCESS.EXE
that is{*filter*}.... I think I will try uninstalling Office again - There seems
to be no way to (uninstall the developer tools). However I think I saw reference
to an MS utility that should be used when uninstalling Office that clears out
all the remnants ... I didn't use that before -- we shall see if that helps - if
not it looks like a WinXP reinstall.... Not unreasonable - haven't done that for
at least a couple of months.....:-)

Many thanks,
Roy

Have you tried importing all objects into a new database?  I wonder if
this could be the problem that turns up if you don't close code
windows as you go along, so you end up with so many windows open in
the VB Editor that it crashes.

Dirk,
Thanks for the response....
No - that's not the problem... It happens even when I have a new, blank
database....
I am resorting to a reformat then reinstall of Windows :-)
Must be a screwed up registry.... or summat..

Access hangs when opening VBA Code window
Dirk,
I think "Ugh!" is very descriptive and captures exactly how I feel....
Interestingly I did a search on Google and found that someone in
2000 had exactly the same problem and posted to this group...
However he got zero responses... I am now resigned to
format / reinstall of windows... Not happy..
Not at all happy... in fact Ugh!... :-)
