Print Word doc. from command line

Can one print a Word document from the command line (DOS prompt), without
opening Word?  If Word does that in the background without showing, it will
be even greater.

Thanks,

Chris.

Print Word doc. from command line
Chris:
I tried this two ways but both times Word opened.  The document did not open
but Word did.

1)  I opened Windows Explorer.  Found the document, right click and told it to
print.  Word opened and I got a print out.

2)  I made a shortcut to my printer on the desktop.  Found my file in Win
Explorer and did a "drag and drop" on the printer.  Again, Word opened and my
document printed without the document itself opening.

If I try or find anything else, I'll post it.

This works beautifully.  Where did you get the info - may be there will be
something about invisible, etc.  I searched the MSDN site, as well as the
Office site for any command line parms. on Word.  Nothing.

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I dont think you can do it without the file being opened. I *think* the
following is as close as you can get:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe" "C:\My
Documents\doc1.doc" /mFilePrintDefault

Note: All one line. I used this from a shortcut on the Windows desktop in
the shortcut's Target field so you may have to modify it if you want to use
it from the DOS prompt.

Hope this helps.

Look for a Word Help item called "Control what happens when you start
Microsoft Word" (or just "startup" will probably do).

Some of the command line entries used by Windows Explorer also have an
undocumented "/x" parameter which presumably affects the way Word starts in
some way.
