I'm unable to duplicate the problem in Word2000, so it looks like this
is a "bug" in the Word97 conversion that was fixed.

I know of no way to help you around the problem of "getting hold" of or
suppressing Word messages that require user intervention. This is an
area where MS hasn't gotten around to meeting the needs of
developers...

in word 2K you can try application.DisplayAlerts=wdAlertsNone
there is a similar command in W97, unfortunately i don't remember, but
it could be the same.
