Finding another program's active file name

I have a program with the most basic usability flaw: it doesn't show
you what file you're working with. (The actual program's purpose is
irrelevant to the query, but for the curious it's called PicoScope,
and allows me to use my PC with some special hardware as a sort of
oscilloscope, for my electronics hobby. Having captured a waveform you
can save it for later study.)

This is the only file-using program I've ever encountered with this
really exasperating problem. I've tried using File Save As, hoping to
find the current file's name sitting in the box, but no luck there.
(Nor the obvious approach of getting the supplier to fix it; 18 months
and several chasers later - still no patch!)

Would it be possible to switch to Word at any time and run a VBA macro
that would display the PicoScope active file name, ideally accessible
for copying via clipboard?
