 copyrights for contractor

Does anyone know where I can find info on what exactly are my copyright
"rights" when it comes to developing a program for a company?  I've heard
some interesting discussions on this subject.  One, is if the company has
full copyrights then is it true that technically I can't reuse similar code?
Two, is it ethical when developing an access 2000 app to only provide the
company with an MDE (i.e. protect my code from prying eyes)?  Any thoughts
suggestions and links to software copyrights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Marvin

Try http://www.cpuniverse.com/newsite/forums/community.html for broader
discussions on this subject.

In the past, if a company had "source code included" in my contract, and I
signed off on it, then it was theirs...period! Unless it was something that
I created and included prior to our relationship (like a reusable DLL for
example).

In general, if you are contracting to a company then you
are working for hire.  They own the copyright.  You have
no rights.  The only exception to this is if you have
specifically gotten a clause into your contract that
states otherwise.  For more information, see a lawyer.

Note that the rules vary from one country to the next. Most ot the
work I have done has been under contracts that specify ownership,
in a country where in the absence of specific contract arrangements
the law would assign copyright to the company  for work done by
"Employees", but assign copyright to the author for work done by
"Contractors".
