Hi Using VBA within Access how do I search for a specific text string contained withing a directory of Word *.doc files? Thanks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Doug

Searching *.doc for text strings
You'd be best to use Word itself via automation, because some Word control information may be "blended" with the characters themselves and a straight text comparison may not find the string.
