Best method of working with Access 97 / Outlook 2000 / Exchange Server 5.5

I'm working on project with

Outlook 2000
Access 97 (to be upgraded at sometime in the future)
Exchange 5.5 (also will be upgraded sometime in the future

I need to

- check e-mail addresses against entries in the Access DB
- add data to the DB automatically (hyperlinks to  attachments saved
in the OS file system)
- bring up a partially completed Access 97 form when I come across a
new e-mail address to be added to the Access DB

Is my best strategy to build as many queries in Access as possible
(for ease of upgrading) and use ADODB connections?

or is there an easier way?
