The usual starting point is DVS (Developing Visio Solutions) that use to
come as a PDF with Visio, but with Visio 2002, it is available separately.
After that there are only two books
1) Dave Edson's "Professional Development with Visio 2000" by Sams (I
haven't seen a 2002 version)
2) Graham Wideman's "Visio 2002 Developer's Survival Pack" by Trafford Press
For what you are doing, the DVS book should be sufficient. Look for DVS.PDF
on your system (You may have to do a reinstall to obtain the documentation).
